I talk to a lot of solo professionals – all kinds of coaches, personal trainers, massage therapists, bookkeepers, etc, – and hands down the biggest challenge they face is trying to figure out how to market, what methods to use, and what to say.  It’s not that they don’t know what to do, they just don’t know where to start.  They want direction and that’s what this first step is all about.

You’ve probably heard of a mission statement, but have you ever heard of a marketing statement?  Simply put, it’s a statement of your purpose for every single marketing activity you do.  In other words, your marketing statement acts as reference point.  Every time you think of adding another marketing activity, refer to your marketing statement to make sure it’s in alignment.  This eliminates wasting time and money on things you think you ‘should’ be doing without knowing why you are doing them.

Your marketing statement answers the questions of why, where, who, what, and how you will market.  In one simple sentence.  A hidden reward is the confidence you’ll feel knowing you won’t be wasting time and money on things that don’t get results.
